IUCC MISSIONS

Pastors Rich Pleva and Bill Kapp first introduced IUCC youth to Mission trips starting in 1993.  Trips to Chicago, St Louis, and South Dakota introduced our youth to opportunities to help others outside of Lafayette County.

Beginning in 2005, IUCC members of all ages have traveled biennially to the Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Back Bay’s Mission is to strengthen neighborhoods, seek justice and transform lives.    It offers amazing volunteer opportunities, including mission trips on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Back Bay Mission serves neighborhoods through housing rehabilitation, education, and by being advocates to the people on their journey through poverty.  They have dedicated staff and a board of directors that have 90 + years of service.

We at IUCC have traveled to Back Bay Mission 7 times to help those identified by the staff at Back Bay Mission who need help.  It could be food, clothing, a shower, personal items, laundry, computer access, and other urgent needs.  Back Bay Mission also has the services of the Micah Center, the Food Pantry, and Loaves and Fishes that can be offered.  More information can be found on their website at www.backbaymission.org

During our visits to Back Bay, we have the opportunity to work in each of these services.  We have gained so much helping in Biloxi, in addition to strengthening relationships within our church family.

Local organizations and individuals also benefit from the Mission Team’s work in the way of monetary contributions.

To fund their services, the IUCC Mission team holds annual fundraisers such as the Spring cinnamon roll and brat stand, and the Fall apple pie sale.  Over 700 pies are made by hand each Fall to supply the Mission Team with financial resources to assist people near and far.
